Another Oh-Wow Wednesday

I sure do miss Oldies 92. Sigh.... In any case, the show must go on.

Topic 1: Brian, the prophet
If you'll think back to my post from 8/29 (or simply scroll down), you'll recall that I predicted the oncoming demise of the Phillies. In the face of this criticism, how have the Phils responded? By going 3-6 since and losing their lead in the Wild Card. The past 2 games have been blown in the 9th inning by Billy Wagner, who painted a rosy picture of the Phils postseason chances earlier this summer.

Topic 2: Buckle Up
If I can give some advice about Arizona (besides Sunscreen), it's this: Don't drive. I'm not telling you not to drive to the state itself, that's pretty much obvious seeing how we're 6 hours from any other civilization, but only 45 air minutes from Vegas. I actually mean don't drive anywhere in/near the city. I probably wouldn't walk, either, because you'll be even worse off when you get hit. My advice is to go with a Segway - not because it's safer, but because if you can afford one of those you are probably rich enough to have a nice hospital room too.
In the past 5 days, all 3 people I live with got into accidents. Thankfully, they're ok (their cars are a different story) but it sure scares the bejeep's out of me, especially since HALF of the drivers here don't have insurance (which is great for the half that do and have to pick up the tab). Trust me- fly over the city and go right to California. Same amount of crazy people but at least there's an ocean.

Topic 3: My first bid day
Today at work I got to experience the heart racing action of a construction bid day. This is when a contractor (us) harasses all of the subcontractors (the people doing work for us) into giving us some greatly inflated price so that we can further inflate it and put it into our bid. The bid is then due at a specified time, in person, with no tolerance for tardiness. Take today, for example. Work starts at 7am. Bid is due at 3pm. When do we do 90% of the work? Between 2:30 and 2:45 pm. Then we call in the numbers to the bid runner waiting in the hotel room (you read that right, horny teenagers aren't the only ones who rent rooms for 3 hours) who then runs the bid into the office. And we won! Woohoo! So to celebrate, we got to stay late and double check our numbers!

I'm nothing like Milton. My stapler is black.

Topic 4: A few travel items rolled into one
I'll keep this brief:
A. Tracy comes in this weekend. Hooray Tracy!
B. I go to ND on Monday! Hooray Trees!
C. What's more, CJ's opens on Tuesday! Hooray Burgers!
D. Much to my suprise, USAir not only replied to my complaint letter, but they sent money instead of excuses...$150! Well, a voucher for $150 to be exact. Now if I could only find a flight home for less than $450, it might be useful.
This last point is actually a public service message. My complaint to USAir containted ZERO specific information about my trip, because by then I had misplaced my tickets. In other words, this company gave me money to shut me up. And I'm happy to take it. Try it out for yourself!
Hooray Complaining!

I noticed my LPP (links per post) has been going up. While I do this as a valubale service to the 2 or 3 people that read this site, I'll try not to get carried away. I would not want things getting out of control.
