Note to Meatloaf: One out of Three IS Bad

Well, we've reached the late August/early September time of year, otherwise known as the point at which the Phillies seem to think the season ends. Take a look at their records down the stretch throughout history. Actually, you only need to look at one year: 1964. The losing-est franchise in sports history showed its true ability to overcome any lead that year. With 12 games to go in the regular season, and up 6.5 games in their division, the Phils dropped 10 in a row, freeing up valuable post-season time to listen to their The Kinks records.

This past weekend, true to form, the Fightin Phils (what is my obsession with teams who have the word "Fightin" in their nickname?) began preparing for their October team Caribbean cruise by losing 2 of 3 to the Diamondbacks. The Arizona Diamondbacks. The team who gave away free tickets to Saturday's game with a purchase of a Budweiser 18-pack. Good thing I haggled with the scalper so I got to watch the sucking on Friday and Sunday for cheap (the beer coupon was used on Sat). But hey, this series really turned the DBacks season around. Now they're only 12 games under .500, yet somehow still within reach of the NL West lead at 5.5 games back. For reference, the last place team in the NL East, the Nationals, hold an 8 game lead over the DBacks.

But I'm not mad. It's pretty convienent that the Phils always pack it in right about the time when college football season begins, saving me the effort of having to divide my time.

Though it doesn't really matter since their season is now over, I'm still concerned about one thing: Who kidnapped David Bell? Clearly, this man hitting .245 for the season (.209 for August) with zero stolen bases is not David Bell. In fact, I think it's none other than Dylan Walsh, star of FX's hit show Nip/Tuck. Take a look for yourself:

...."David Bell": .............Dylan Walsh:

I rest my case.

It's ok, Dylan. I'd be sad too if I went from being a TV star in Miami to playing for the Phillies.

5 days till kickoff....
